ROGUE by C.D. REISS

Book Blurb:

Antonio is obsessed. Theresa Drazen’s the last woman he should touch.
She’s going to get him killed. She’s dangerous. Poison. The wrong woman.
Except…she’s not the prim little heiress she seems to be.
She’s perfect.
—–
Theresa Drazen can have plenty of guys, but the one she can’t keep away from….the one she’s just about addicted to, is more than forbidden. With felony-black eyes and a mouth built for lies, loving him is one step away from illegal.
But her body keeps overriding her brain. Maybe it’s time to stop playing by the rules.
——-
And they both figure…one more time. Just one more time.
One more time and they won’t get caught.
One more time and they won’t get killed.
One.
More.
Time…….

Review:

I’ve only read one C.D. Reiss book, Marriage Games. It was a great book. Not sure why it’s taken me so long to get back around to her. I have definitely been missing out.

Rogue is the first book in the Corruption Series. I don’t read a lot of mafia stories, so I went into this with a little bit of a closed mind. Well, let me tell you, mind. wide. open.

This is the first of 3 books and it introduces us to all the players. Theresa is coming off a cheating scandal with her ex-fiancee who is running for public office. Antonio is a “maybe” mafia guy who is obsessed with Theresa, and Daniel is the ex-fiancee who still needs Theresa’s good name to help him win the election.

There is some criminal activity and lots of skirting the law by all parties involved, but the one thing that stands out is Theresa’s loyalty. She is loyal to Daniel, even in the wake of his infidelity and she’s loyal to Antonio, who she’s only just met, but is intensely attracted to. She’s loyal to Katrina, her best friend, who is struggling to get her film made. However, it doesn’t seem like anyone is really loyal to her. In their own way, everyone is using her.

I like the way the author has Theresa is all these different roles and situations. She’s like an undercover boss. Fixing everything for everybody. The chemistry between Antonio and Theresa is off the charts. Antonio is very domineering which turns you off and on at the same time. The title of the book is perfect, because by the end, Theresa has definitely gone Rogue.

Favorite Scene: Chapter 27

“I want you,” I said, breathless. “I want you, and I’m going to have you. That’s it.”

“I’m death to you.” He accelerated. The BMW kicked awake as if that was its shining moment.

“No. You’re like mainlining life. I want it. I need it. I don’t care what I have to do to earn your trust, I’ll do it.”
