So, I wasn’t sure how to write this review. Is the writing superb? When is it not? Is the book great? Absof—-nglutely!
I think Cade and Shawna’s story sat with me a little differently. Both were fighting some demons, and Cade has some dark demons. His almost physical struggle to keep those dark thoughts at bay resonated with me. Tragedies change people in a fundamental way. Some for the better, and some for the worse.
To me, this story was not only about both Shawn and Cade fighting to be together and overcoming their tragic pasts and present, but also learning how to navigate the consequences of their changed mindset.
Everything is not black and white; but how do we manage the gray without losing ourselves entirely into the darkest parts of the spectrum? Finding someone who is ready, willing, and able to see and accept all of you, even some of the not so great parts – that is a true love story. That is Cade and Shawna.
