MERCILESS by WILLOW WINTERS

Book Blurb:

I should’ve known she would ruin me the moment I saw her.
Women like her are made to destroy men like me.
I couldn’t resist her though.
Given to me to start a war; I was too eager to accept.

But I didn’t know what she’d do to me. That she would change everything.
She sees through me in a way no one else ever has.
Her innocence and vulnerability make me weak for her and I hate it.
I know better than to give in to temptation.

A ruthless man doesn’t let a soul close to him.
A cold-hearted man doesn’t risk anything for anyone.
A powerful man with a beautiful woman at his mercy… he doesn’t fall for her.

Review:

This is my first time reading this author and this story is included in the anthology, Modern Fairy Tale: Twelve Books of Breathtaking Romance.

I don’t read mafia stories often, but the few I’ve read have been pretty decent. This book however is just not my cup of tea. I’m all for a little BDSM between consenting adults. This story however is just a little over the top.

IMO, Carter does not have any redeeming qualities. He keeps Aria locked in a cage, as a prisoner so he can break her and use her, all because he wants to “save” her. He treats her like a slave, collars her, and uses her body at his whim. His reasons are sprinkled throughout the beginning of the book, but it just didn’t justify his treatment of her.

I just felt bad for Aria the entire book and the scenes between them made me cringe. The book does end on a cliffhanger and normally I would be inclined to finish the series, but this time, leave the story as is.

MVP Characters: Daniel & Jase

In their own ways, Carter’s brothers tried to help Aria. They were pretty much the only redeeming characters in the book.
