Book Blurb:
From USA Today bestselling author Katie Reus comes the final story in the sensual, pulse-pounding Darkness series…
When a bringer of death…
Awakened after millennia, dragon warrior Reaper is ready to fulfill his destiny…until he sees Greer. With one glimpse, everything Reaper has ever known throughout his very long life is irrevocably changed. Greer’s his mate, he feels it in his blood, in his soul—but convincing her is another matter. The dragon clan healer finds him obnoxious and annoying, but he knows a woman’s interest when he smells it. And Greer smells like one word: mine.
Meets a giver of life…
Greer has spent hundreds of years using her healing abilities for the good of others, making her the polar opposite of Reaper. The ferocious war general may be an ancient, but his arrogance proves he hasn’t spent any of that time learning about women. Greer is displeased when her Alpha sends her to New Orleans with the insufferable warrior—then she sees him in action against a menace threatening to tear the city apart. Fierce, protective, magnificent…mate-worthy. Except he’s hiding something from her. Something dark and devastating that could destroy their newly forged bond. Maybe opposites do attract, but if they want to live long enough to find out, they’ll first have to save the world teetering on the brink of obliteration.

Review:
Darkness Rising is the last book in the Darkness series. I really enjoyed this series and am sad to see it end.
This book features Greer and Reaper. Greer is the healing dragon of her clan and Reaper is the ancient dragon who has just awoken from his hibernation. As with all paranormals these two had instant chemistry and Reaper recognized Greer as his mate and was not ashamed or embarrassed to let her and everyone else know that she was his. Greer of course, refused to acknowledge it. Reaper was a warrior, she is a healer, how could they be mates?
In the midst of their “courtship” a war is raging. There are some rogue dragons who want to star a war and take over the world. I have to say these scenes were very realistic. Between the Humans and the social media aspect as well as the devastation described was mesmerizing. I could not put this book down.
If you’ve read the previous books, then you will enjoy the updates on previous couples as well as a few of the newer potential couples that have secondary story lines in this book.
The ending definitely left the door open for more in this world should the author decide to revisit. And I will be here for it if she does.
Favorite Scene: Chapter 23
To her surprise, Reaper hung back, though his distant expression and body language were crystal clear. What the hell was going on with him? “I will have my phone on me if you need anything.” His words were stiff and stilted.
Despite the fact that Cynara was still on the kitchen, Greer pushed up from her chair and rounded the island to face him head -on. “Have I done something to offend you? Yesterday you couldn’t keep your hands off me. Now…” He was behaving as if she were a stranger.
Cynara chose that moment to duck out of the kitchen, mumbling nonsensical words under her breath.
Reaper just watched Greer for a long moment, his dragon in his gaze. Finally he answered. “I will be back soon.” Which wasn’t an answer at all.
She wanted to stomp her foot in frustration but resisted the childish impulse.
He turned to go, but abruptly strode back across the expansive kitchen. Placing his hands on the countertop behind her, he leaned down, his expression no longer neutral. Now his dragon peered back at her, that bright electric amber gaze wild and angry. “What we did last night was more than fun for me. I’m in this for more than simple fun,” he added again, his jaw tight, his words hard. Waves of potent, red anger rolled off him-and to her surprise, she felt the sense of his hurt more than anything. “You are my mate.”
