Book Blurb:
Parading in front of a room full of women is not Adrian Collins’ idea of a good time. The last thing he wants to do is fly to Chicago for a bachelor auction. But, how can he refuse to help the woman who nurtured him after his mother abandoned him when he was a toddler? Going back to the site of his deepest wounds is where he’ll meet his destiny, Daphne Turner. Adrian is disappointed when Daphne slips through his fingers after losing the bid to an old flame from his past.
Reeling from the death of her uncle, Daphne accepts her best friend’s offer to attend a fundraiser in the windy city. Good cause or not, the idea of spending hard-earned money on a date is ludicrous. That is, until she locks eyes with ruggedly-handsome bachelor number twelve. Unfortunately, the night doesn’t end as Daphne hoped. In the company of a sexy stranger to chase her blues away.
Fate intervenes when Adrian and Daphne’s paths intertwine. However, Adrian’s past threatens to rob them of a life of happiness. Will Daphne’s love be enough to heal his wounded soul?

Review:
I’ve been looking forward to the novellas in this series for a few months now. Although the books are connected via the bachelor auction, each novella is independent of each other.
This is an emotional story. You feel Daphne’s pain with the death of her Uncle Hal. She’s trying to put her life back together, but she is overcome with grief. Adrian still has feelings of rejection after learning, in his youth, that his biological mom left him on Mama Peaches doorstep. He feels if his mother could just leave him like that, then any woman will do the same.
These two meeting during vulnerable times in their life is a messy situation waiting to happen. It’s not all heavy, there are some light moments, that bring quite the chuckle.
There are a few steamy moments, but the story focuses more on the emotional connection between the characters. A quick and easy read.
MVP Character: Nancy
Name: Nancy Redmond
Relationship: Daphne’s best friend
Qualities: honest, outrageous, and loyal
Nancy is comic relief gold and a sister-friend till the end. We should all have a Nancy.
