Chasing Vengeance is the last book in the Redemption Harbor series. I plan on re-reading the series now that I have all the books. It’s great to see how these characters have changed and grown since book 1.
This story features Xavier and Layla. I like Layla’s character because even though she had a rough childhood and was mistreated by her ex-husband, she still has a relatively positive outlook on life. Granted, she has some serious insecurities and she is scared, but determined to put herself out there so she can have the life that she dreamed of. Xavier is just a bad-ass, and I’m here for it. Because of his profession he keeps to himself with no ties. But he can’t stay away from Layla, no matter how much he tries.
This is a romantic suspense story so, there is the other story line of someone targeting Layla to get back at Xavier, Most of the cast of characters from previous books show up at some point during the story. Most of them lending a hand to help keep Layla safe, or give advice when warranted.
Super sexy and totally worth the read.
Favorite Scene: Chapter 7
"What are you doing here?"
"Is that guy here?" he asked as he stepped inside as if he had every right to.
She made an exasperated sound and shut the door behind him. "You're
letting all the cold in,"she muttered a she locked the door. "And no. But if he
was here, it would be none of your business. He could be in my bed right now
for all it matters."
Oh, it mattered. "It is my business."
"You're going to given me an ulcer!" she snapped. He saw the hint of fire in her
he'd only witnessed a few times before and it revved up something inside him.
It made him wonder what she would be like in bed. Something he fantasized
about all the time. Just the thought of her naked, under him, on top of him, it
consumed him.
As he stalked toward her, she moved back toward the front door, still glaring
at him.. Without her heels on she was so much shorter than him, but her size
didn't take away from her fierce expression.
"Did he kiss you?" he demanded, unable to let it go.
"So what if he did? Maybe I kissed hi," she snapped. "Maybe I put on a little strip show for
him to the tune of 'American Woman'! Maybe I let him touch-"
He cut off her words as he crushed his mouth to hers. Xavier didn't want to know if
she'd done anything with her date. He didn't care. Okay,he fucking cared, but if she'd
done anything with that guy, it didn't matter. The only thing that mattered was completely
possessing her right now and wiping the memory of any other man from her mind forever.
